Pavlé Savic

Something happens in front of Pavlé's camera, with actors as much as with people who have never acted: you believe it right away. Everything around them is deliberate, from the framing to the light. Reality meets the magic of cinema.

In his youth he moved between theatre, music and photography, then began filming his first shorts with friends on a small Mini DV. Outside any school, he learned to direct actors, to hold a rhythm and to shape an image by shooting.

Later he held nearly every job there is, from the edit to production management. He pays particular attention to the grade, and likes to take his time over it.

Along the way, for the champagne house Krug, he directed a twenty-minute film about composer Max Richter. For Eminente rum, he shot IT'S OUT THERE in Cuba in about ten days, six portraits on creativity when means are scarce and you cannot leave the island. He also spent over three years following some thirty artists across the world for Adobe. Étienne Faure chose him as director of photography on BIZARRE, his feature shown in the Berlinale's Panorama, and he went on to hold the same role on all four seasons of Y'AFRICA.

Born in Serbia, he grew up in France and speaks French, English and Serbian. For more than ten years he has lived in a community in the countryside, on the edge of Paris. He opened a ramen restaurant, Gaijin Ramen Lab, where everything is made from scratch.

Today he is preparing several long-form documentaries between Europe and Japan.
